  • Caleb Finkenbiner. Issue Position: Abortion. "While not a choice my family would make, I have and always will believe in the right of a woman's choice. The issue of abortion has divided us in America for too long. The Supreme Court ruled on Roe vs. Wade nearly 40 years ago, yet that is where the argument is stuck. It is my belief that if we focused the time, energy, and money spent arguing towards educating young women and men on the consequences of unprotected sex and the alternatives to abortion we could greatly reduce the need for abortions." • Caleb Finkenbiner. Issue Position: Education. "Our school systems have implemented graduation tests that students are required to pass before they can receive their diploma. So I ask, if a high school sophomore passes the Ohio Graduation Test, are we wasting the next two years re-teaching him or her content this student already knows? In this case, my answer to this question is yes. Every year we hear how American students are falling behind those around the globe. But we are comparing ourselves to countries who take the children who are ready and start them in career training. While we do have vocational schools, career training is limited. What about the student who wants to be a teacher, doctor, or an accountant? Shouldn't we give him or her the opportunity to train for a career when ready and not just when the system is ready? It is my belief we must take advantage of all the available technologies so our teachers can better reach all students, a realizing not all children learn in the same fashion. If the goal of our schools is to prepare students for higher education and/or entering the world of work, they must be equipped with the ability and knowledge to function in the technological age. Furthermore, we must also make sure that we are doing everything possible to keep our best teachers in the teaching profession and find ways to better train those who are not producing the desired results."
